I prayed silently for a favorable result.Ī month and a few weeks went by, but still there was no news from the embassy. I was very happy the interview and demo went well. I was sweating and shaking but the 20 minutes was brief.

I sat in front of a panel which consisted of a friendly-looking Japanese man who seemed so amused of how I handled myself, and two Filipino women (not sure if they were representatives of the embassy or the Commission on Higher Education). The interview and demo happened in a flash of lightning. The next morning I bravely set foot on the premises of the embassy, entrusting my fate to God. On the 1 st of February, a day before my interview, I boarded the plane to Manila, overwhelmed with anxiousness and fatigue. I was invited for an interview and demo at the embassy in Manila! By then, I barely had two weeks to prepare before the big day. I felt goose bumps all over my body when I finally got the news that I passed the first stage. After a month and a half had passed, I stopped thinking over the possibility of receiving an email from the embassy. When I sent my application, I got rid of any expectation and promised myself I won’t ever get disappointed if I get rejected. The first stage is the documents screening. The JET application process involves two stages and takes 7 months of patient waiting. I took advantage of the sudden surge of confidence I felt one morning and rushed to the nearest courier branch to send my application to the embassy. I was a little hesitant because I knew hundreds of qualified individuals would be sending over their applications. It took me two weeks to finally decide to start working on my application. I started my JET journey back in 2015 when I stumbled upon the information on the website of Japan in the Philippines. The Philippines also sends participants every year to represent the country in the programme. The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme invites youth from all over the world with the aim of promoting internationalization in Japan (visit the JET programme website for more details). I hope this blog will be able to help you in your journey towards becoming a JET participant. In this blog, I wrote some FAQs based on the messages I got. Last year, I received a lot of messages from applicants asking all sorts of questions about JET. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a single blog written by a Filipino JET. They were really helpful but I wanted to know what the JET program experience is like to a Filipino participant. When I was applying for the program, I found numerous blogs written by American, British, and Canadian JETs. This blog is written to chronicle my journey in the JET Programme and somehow provide reference to aspiring Filipino JET participants.
